Tuesday, June 15

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful long weekend!  We are counting down the last few days of school and the class is very excited for their well deserved summer vacation!

In their planners today, they wrote about bringing snacks to share with their pen pals on Thursday, June 17.  Please send some treats to share with the class and our friends from St. Joseph the Worker school.  Fruits, cookies...just anything small to share. You can send these tomorrow and on Thursday.

Have a good evening!

What an exciting day!  We started our morning off with several interesting science experiments in different classrooms.  We learned about how lemon juice is an acid, we made 'flubber', we learned about different sounds, and we saw a small sheet of paper magically turn into long strips that can fit around our bodies!

At lunch, we went to the gym to watch the Staff vs. Students floor hockey game.  The teachers were no match for the super athletes in grade 7!  Congratulations to Jacob for winning one of the raffle prizes!

This afternoon was a little quieter as we sequenced the growth of a plant and finished off some incomplete work from earlier this week.

Thursday, June 3

We started one of 3 plant experiments in class today. This afternoon, we talked about capillary action.  We compared drinking straws to plant stems.  To see how stems work, we put celery stalks in some blue water.  We wonder what will happen in the next few days....

For homework today, please read any book for 15 minutes. Have your child practice how to choose a "just right" book.  Below are some of the strategies we have been using to help us choose the "just right" book.

What kinds of roots do you eat?  Today, we looked at roots and how they contribute to the growth of plants.  We're still not finished with our study of roots, but take a close look at dinner tonight and see what kinds of roots are on your plate.  If anyone has any kind of root they want to bring to show tomorrow, please feel free!

For homework tonight, there are 2 sheets to read and colour.  Please return these tomorrow.  Also, $2 for tickets to the the Staff vs. Gr. 7 students hockey game next week.

I forgot to send home the spelling tests today - I will send them tomorrow!

Have a good evening.

We went on a plant hunt today.  We looked at the different types of plant life that grows around the school grounds.  What kinds of plants do you have growing in your yard?  Or even in your home?  It was nice that the sun made an appearance this afternoon!

For homework today, students have a colouring sheet.  Please fold this sheet as instructed to make a mini booklet and read it together.

We had our spelling test today for last week's spelling words.  They will go home tomorrow.  The new spelling words are posted today.

Have a good evening!
