Mrs. J. Hopson

Class 4A

Monday, June 21, 2010

Dear Parents and Students,

This is it.  It is here ... the final full week of the grade four year.  This week will be devoted to finishing up mini-projects, collecting texts and finding missing items, as well as cleaning the room so it shines. We'll also begin sending home work and assignments.  If you have any school texts at home, please be sure to send them in.  It would also be a benefit to your child to send in a couple of extra bags with them. They'll be taking home work and supplies gradually, however they will still be taking home quite a lot of things.

Congratulations to all of the students from our class who participated in the Byron-Germaine Math Contest for grade four. These students are:  Marcus, Sabrina, Jesse, Rynelle, Christina, Owen K., Selena, Abigail, Andrew and Mark.  They did extremely well and should be proud of their accomplishments. Well done!

Our masks are coming along nicely.  We will begin painting on tomorrow.  I strongly encourage the students to bring in a smock to use.  The students may also want to include some special features to their mask.  Should they desire to add special things like jewels and fur please have you child bring them in by Thursday.

Our Potato Harvest is on for  tomorrow, Tuesday, June 22. A special thanks to those parents who are joining us.  Their help with preparing our feast is greatly appreciated.  It should be a delicious afternoon.

Sincerely,

J. Hopson

EXPECTATIONS FOR THIRD TERM:

1. Be Positive

  • have confidence in yourself
  • be willing to try
  • do the work instead of complaining about it

2. Be Ready to Learn

  • be efficient -- listen attentively, work hard, have fun
  • have fun with the process
  • complete ALL work to the BEST of your ability
  • show responsibility for your work and belongings

3. Be Respectful, Always

  • be KIND -- use kind, polite and encouraging words
  • smile
  • help before being asked
  • use materials properly
  • treat others as you want to be treated

Our goal will be to live these expectations both here at school and at home.  Third term will prove to be a big push towards independence and of utilizing more critical thinking skills. The students will be expected to both manage their time better and to keep their area clean and more organized.

Please see the homework, criterias and links pages for recent updates.

SELF-DIRECTED DAILY WORK

The students are responsible for writing in their Virtues notebook and Daily Physical Activity notebook everyday and for handing them in on Thursday mornings for grading.

Virtues Notebook:

The students need to answer the questions:

  •      Was I joyful today at school and at home?
  •      How did I share my joy with others?

They need to answer these questions in complete sentences and have an answer that shows how they shared joy both at home and in school.

Daily Physical Activity Notebook:

The students need to title their T-Chart with activity on one side and Fruit / Vegetable on the other side.  The students need to write what activity they participated in at school and home and what fruit and vegetable they ate each day at school and at home.
