Dear Parents,
We are all looking forward to our four day weekend. There is no school on Friday (walk-a-thon day) and Monday is Victoria Day. Hopefully we can spend time with our families and attend to the real important issues in our lives, our faith, friends and family. Remember to have fun. Please note that the Walkathon in-lieu of holiday is this Friday, May 21 and NOT Tuesday, May 25 as originally stated in the planner. This change occurred because the CISVA track meet was moved to Tuesday, May 25.
Our busy track season is in full swing. Thank you parents for all the work you do, volunteering to drive and getting here early for practices.
Please, please for the safety of the children, slow down in our parking lot. It is a busy place in the morning and afternoon with everyone rushing about. Safety has to be our number one priority.
We would also like to remind our parents and students that the warm weather does not mean we can relax on our dress code. Please follow the policies so we can focus our time on instruction and not so much on what we are wearing. Enjoy the short break!
We have 2 Spirit Days coming up:
Tomorrow, students can wear their Walkathon T-shirt, track or comfortable pants and/or shorts in celebration of the Walkathon rally and our Principal for the Day – Alexandra Cafik-Irwin (no twonie is required).
On Wednesday, May 26 there will be a hot lunch and crazy sock day to raise funds for the Me to We initiative called Operation Smile. Every $250 raised will pay for 1 child’s operation to correct a severely cleft pallet. Visit http://www.operationsmile.org/ for more details. Students can come out of uniform, wear their craziest socks and bring a townie to support this worthy cause.
God Bless,
Wendell MacCormack
Principal
Science Fair Tonight: The Sacred Heart Science Fair for students who volunteered to participate will be held this evening from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please come and check out the exhibits and cool experiments that the students have worked hard to complete. There will be judges and prizes and a concession to help curb the appetite.
Parent Participation Hours: The parent participation year runs from May 16, 2009 to May 15, 2010. It is now time to submit your volunteer hours accumulated during this time period. Please complete the online form that has a link on our web site’s home page (www.shsdelta.org) or click on the following link, fill in the details and click the submit form button at the bottom: http://www.shsdelta.org/pphours.asp. Don’t delay, enter today so that you don’t have to pay.
Walkathon: We are still cheerfully accepting walkathon pledge monies. Don’t delay – get those pledge forms and monies in by tomorrow morning at the latest so that the students can dunk Mr. MacCormack and Serge, his Montreal Canadiens’ mascot on June 18th.. The final rally is taking place this Thursday, May 20 starting at 2:20 pm. Parents are welcome.
Confirmation Thank You: We would like to extend our thanks to the many grade 6 parents and students who helped with the Confirmation reception on Saturday, May 1. Tara Sudbury and her excellent crew of helpers did a fabulous job turning the gym into a beautiful reception area. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. Thanks again and congratulations to all of our Confirmants.
Technology Committee: under the direction of the school administration and the PEC, a technology committee is being formed to assist in determining both the short-term and long-term technology plans for the school. Over the course of the next few months, decisions will be made to determine the best technology enhancements in the classroom and throughout the school. The 4-6 person committee will be led by Mr. Andrew Rapier along with other parents, parishioners and/or staff. Those interested, preferably with experience in technology, should contact Angela McKay at angelamckay@telus.net or 604.803.6705 for more information.
Computer room renovation: Expressions of interest are invited for the proposed expansion/renovation of the school’s computer lab. The project includes all disciplines of construction. Interested parties must be a licensed general contractor. Please contact Barry Marshall at 604-319-4740 for additional information.
Grade 5 Parents: We have six weeks to go before the Grade 7 Farewell, and Angela Ford, the coordinator, needs your help.
1. Would you mind resending to her email address (angelavford@gmail.com) the area that you volunteered for: Decorating, Set-Up, Kitchen, Serving, Clean-Up, Invitations. She had a catastrophic computer problem which deleted her volunteer list - sorry for the inconvenience.
2. EVERYONE MUST DONATE DESSERT! The Grade 7 class is a big one, and I hear they really like sweets. Every Grade 5 family will need to donate some baking in order to send our Grade 7 students off with a sugar high. Details to come...
3. URGENTLY REQUIRED: Co-Coordinator for food: Angela McKay will be coordinating the meal beforehand, but I need someone to work with her. This person will coordinate drinks, dessert and some minor kitchen rentals beforehand, pick up the Chinese food on June 28, and work with a kitchen team during the dinner. This should not be a parent with a child in Grade 7. You will get first choice of leftover desserts.
4. Do you need to help out before the event? I need a couple of people to put together the program for the evening.
5. Do you have a child in Grade 5 and 7? We will need Grade 5 students to help serve the meal, and priority will be given to those with Grade 7 siblings.
6. Sign up sheets--as soon as I hear back and compile a new volunteer list, I will put updated sign-up sheets by the office for any last minute volunteers. Right now we need particular help with Kitchen and Clean-Up.
Annual Summer Watering Program: Volunteers are needed to water the lawns and shrubs during the summer months. The program will commence by mid June and run through to mid September. This program does count for volunteer hours. For families who find it hard to get hours during the school day, this is a wonderful opportunity to work at times that are convenient for you. For more information and to register our name please call Barry Marshall at 319-4740 or email watering@shsdelta.org .
Do you love to sing? If you are between 8-13 years old, Monica Rumpel (Thomas Rumpel’s sister) & Michelle Jones invite you to join them in “SING OUT”, a summer singing camp from July 5-23 (M, W, F) either from 9-10:30 am or 10:45-12:15 am. Cost is $150 (includes supplies). A variety of music will be covered with a concert to finish off the camp. For more info, contact jones-inc@telus.net or 604.720.3392.
Lost: Roots black or gray watch belonging to Jordan Drab. Please return it to the office if you have it by mistake.
