Dear Parents,
We are nearing our final month of school – it is hard to believe. I have been here for a year but time goes by quickly when you are having fun. Our Walkathon monies are being spent, furnishing our new Kindergarten class; we have 46 students for next year. New technology for classrooms including some Interactive Whiteboards (similar to Smart Boards), two Elmo projectors and digital projectors have all been ordered. Our Band program will be revised, our Art classes updated and new resources purchased for the upcoming year. We are moving forward and we have the parents and students to thank. Two special thank yous go out to Mrs. Derrheim and Mrs. Luteijn for all their hard work on the Walkathon. All that is left is for the Hab fan to be placed in the Dunk Tank. This will take place on June 18 during Playday. I think I will call in sick that day!
God Bless,
Wendell MacCormack

Parent Participation Hours: The parent participation year runs from May 16, 2009 to May 15, 2010. It is now time to submit your volunteer hours accumulated during this time period. Please complete the online form that has a link on our web site’s home page (www.shsdelta.org) or click on the following link, fill in the details and click the submit form button at the bottom: http://www.shsdelta.org/pphours.asp.
Technology Committee: under the direction of the school administration and the PEC, a technology committee is being formed to assist in determining both the short-term and long-term technology plans for the school. Over the course of the next few months, decisions will be made to determine the best technology enhancements in the classroom and throughout the school. The 4-6 person committee will be led by Mr. Andrew Rapier along with other parents, parishioners and/or staff. Those interested, preferably with experience in technology, should contact Angela McKay at angelamckay@telus.net or 604.803.6705 for more information.
Computer room renovation: Expressions of interest are invited for the proposed expansion/renovation of the school’s computer lab. The project includes all disciplines of construction. Interested parties must be a licensed general contractor. Please contact Barry Marshall at 604-319-4740 for additional information.
Track and Field: We would like to congratulate the track and field team for two things yesterday: first, for showing great behaviour and sportsmanship at the first day of the CISVA track and field meet. Second, for performing extremely well at the meet. We had several students do well in their events and though we do not have the official standings for the first day as of yet, we are certain that Sacred Heart was one of the top teams at the meet. Well done!! If anyone has a copy of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies CD, please contact Mr. Jones ASAP. We might use one of the tunes from that CD for our track and field awards ceremony in June, so we would like to preview some of the music. Regards, Jason Jones
DSS Tour: Gr. 7 students who are registered at Delta Secondary School are invited to visit the school on Wednesday, June 2 from 9:55 to 11:15 am for a tour. Parents should arrange transportation for their children to and from Delta Secondary.
Grade 5 Parents: We have 5 weeks to go before the Grade 7 Farewell, and Angela Ford, the coordinator, needs your help.
1. Would you mind resending to her email address (angelavford@gmail.com) the area that you volunteered for: Decorating, Set-Up, Kitchen, Serving, Clean-Up, Invitations. She had a catastrophic computer problem which deleted her volunteer list - sorry for the inconvenience.
2. URGENTLY REQUIRED: Co-Coordinator for food: Angela McKay will be coordinating the meal beforehand, but I need someone to work with her. This person will coordinate drinks, dessert and some minor kitchen rentals beforehand, pick up the Chinese food on June 28, and work with a kitchen team during the dinner. This should not be a parent with a child in Grade 7. You will get first choice of leftover desserts.
3. Do you have a child in Grade 5 and 7? We will need Grade 5 students to help serve the meal, and priority will be given to those with Grade 7 siblings.
4. Sign up sheets--as soon as I hear back and compile a new volunteer list, I will put updated sign-up sheets by the office for any last minute volunteers. Right now we need particular help with Kitchen and Clean-Up.
Annual Summer Watering Program: Volunteers are needed to water the lawns and shrubs during the summer months. The program will commence by mid June and run through to mid September. This program does count for volunteer hours. For families who find it hard to get hours during the school day, this is a wonderful opportunity to work at times that are convenient for you. For more information and to register your name please call Barry Marshall at 319-4740 or send an email to watering@shsdelta.org
Lost: Roots black or gray watch belonging to Jordan Drab; a black Tony Hawk jacket owned by Jack Bernard; labelled gr. 7 vest, grad sweatshirt and blue dress pants belonging to Carson Hale. Please return them to the office if you have them by mistake. Thank you.
